I studied acupuncture in a three year course at the London School of
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The school is now part
of Westminster College and one of the few accredited training programmes
in the UK.
After graduating in 1992 I started my acupuncture practice at a GP surgery,
incorporating my complementary skills in a conventional medical setting.
I also began working at Muswell Healing Arts. I have worked at both
places ever since.
I continue to further my studies, for example an area I have specialist
post graduate training in is paediatric acupuncture and tuina/infant
massage. In 1996 I also started work as the acupuncturist for the internationally
renowned Active Birth Centre having completed specialist training in
the use of acupuncture in pregnancy and childbirth. In addition I trained
in the use of acupuncture for the treatment of infertility.
I have always been interested in herbalism as part of the holistic approach
of Traditional Chinese Medicine. To complement acupuncture I studied
aromatherapy, Japanese Herbal Medicine and Traditional Chinese Dermatology.
These studies ultimately led me to three years intensive training in
Chinese Herbal Medicine. I now incorporate herbalism in my treatment,
particularly for infertility and gynaecological problems.
My work at the GP practice has brought me into contact with a broad
range of patients from infants to the elderly and a wide variety of
ailments. My eight years as the acupuncturist for the Active Birth
Centre has given me unique experience in treating all the common problems
of pregnancy including induction and breech babies. Working at the family
oriented Muswell Healing Arts has afforded me the opportunity of treating
many of the illnesses of infancy and childhood. It has also enabled
me to develop an excellent rapport with babies and children.

'Maeve had been recommended by my cousin who had sung her praises to
the skies because she had supported her during pregnancy. I had heard
she was brilliant, caring, accessible and committed.
I see her as a brave and courageous practitioner, she 'walks her talk'
and is not afraid to be honest and upfront.
Her treatment has a truly human dimension. She has a wonderful laugh and
that has a strong healing effect. She has put a great deal of energy and
commitment into the healing process and I feel that she really cares about
the outcome.'
'It was very encouraging on the very first session to be questioned about my health in general and have a practitioner who did not shroud the whole idea in some sort of mysticism but who was very sane and down to earth. One particular aspect that has impressed me is the way Maeve is always updating her knowledge, attending courses and keeping up with current research. She does not confine herself to the area of acupuncture alone but looks at the broader issues.'
